문 좀 열어주실래요?   Can you open the door, please?

볼륨 좀 올려주실래요? Would you turn up the volume, please?

 

1. 부탁할 때 쓰는 조동사 : can, will, could, would

(1) 일반적인 때는 can, could를 주로 사용한다. 

      의문문 형태로 부탁하는 거지만, 왠만하면 해달라는 의미가 있다.

(2) 상대방이 내 부탁을 들어줄 의향이 있는지 살짝 민감할 때는 will, would를 써본다. 

      부탁+의사 확인하는 느낌이랄까.

(3) could, would는 과거의미가 아니라 좀 더 공손한 느낌을 표시할 때 쓴단다.

 

   Open the door.   (명령형)

   Please open the door.  Open the door please.  (please를 붙여서 무례함을 없앤다)

   Can/Will you open the door?       (부탁하는 느낌)

   Could/Would you open the door?  (공손히 부탁)

   I am wondering if you can open the door.  (공손하고 조심스럽게 부탁하는 느낌)

 

2. 매우 공손하고 조심스러운 부탁 : I'm wondering if -  

    --인지 궁금하네요...라는 간접적인 의문문이면서 공손한 부탁

    Can you help me?   나 좀 도와줄래? 이런 느낌이고

    I'm wondering if you can help me.   나 좀 도와줄 수 있는지 궁금하네...바쁜거같은데 나 도와줄 시간이 되나....안되도 상관없지만....이런 느낌.

 

3. Would you mind ~ 

  (1) 부탁할 때는, 

      A: Would you mind if you stop smoking?  

      B: No, not at all. / No, I'd be glad to.

  (2) 허락할 때는,

      A: Wolud you mind if I smoked here?

 

[PRACTICE]

Can you give me a ride to the subway station?

Could you turn up the heat?

Would you keep an eye on my bag for a minute?

I'm wondering if you can ride me to the subway station.

I'm wondering if you can lend me your car.

I'm wondering if you can help me with my study.

 

[English Composition]

Q1. 저를 위해 그 문서를 검토해주실 수 있나요? (can)

Q2. 터미널에서 저를 데려가 주실래요? (could)

Q3. 그놈에게 내가 전화했다고 전해주실래요? (would)

Q4. 괜찮으시면 창문 좀 닫아주실 수 있나요? (mind)

Q5. 제 가방 좀 들어주실 수 있는지 궁금하네요. (wondering)

 

My answer and correction.

A1. Can you look over the document for me?

      --> Good: look something/somebody over 또는 look over something 으로 

             사물을 쓸때는 괜찮으나, 사람은 look과 over 사이에 쓰는 것 주의.

A2. Could you pick me up to the bus terminal?

     --> Bad: Could you pick me up at the bus terminal?   (어디에서/어디로부터 ~ 의미니까 at)

A3. Would you tell to him I called?

     --> Not bad: Would you tell to him that I called?

A4. Would you mind if you can close the window?

     --> OK and: If you don't mind, can you close the window?

A5. I'm wondering if you can help me with my bag.

     --> Good.
